Rangers TV man issues ‘£50m’ signing claim as Michael Beale ‘nudges’ Ibrox board

Alan Hutton has claimed Michael Beale is trying to “nudge” the Rangers board to spend big in the January window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender suggested Beale wants the same freedom Ange Postecoglou has to sign new players.

As quoted by the Scotsman (7 January), the Light Blues boss said his Celtic counterpart was a “lucky man” given the amount of money he’s been able to spend on signings since his arrival at Parkhead.

The Aussie has invested almost £50million in transfer fees since his appointment in June 2021, almost three times what the Ibrox club have spent.

Beale said his side won’t be making as many signings as their Glasgow rivals and although Postecoglou is a “good coach”, he has “spent a lot of money”.

When asked if the Bears boss is trying to encourage the board to put their hands in their pockets, Hutton told Football Insider:Possibly.

If you look at Celtic so far, that is three players they have brought in already. It is only the start of January.

Obviously Postecoglou had his targets in mind and went and did it early so they can continue and maintain the form that they are on.

I think Michael Beale, being a new manager at the club, he will want to put his own stamp on the team and bring in his own players and he wants to get it done as soon as possible.

Rangers

He wants to get these guys in to mount and challenge and try and claw back these nine points.

It is probably just a little nudge in the direction of the board to say he needs to be backed. He has obviously got his targets and he wants them in as soon as possible.
