Rangers TV pundit makes ‘absolutely massive’ Celtic claim
Alan Hutton has insisted Sunday’s win over Dundee was “absolutely massive” for Celtic in their title race with Rangers.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the Bhoys have “put down a marker” by picking up three points despite not playing at their best.
A late Giorgios Giakoumakis goal secured a dramatic win and sent the Bhoys three points clear at the top of the Premiership table.
The win came after Rangers drew against Dundee United earlier on Sunday.
Hutton admitted Celtic have given themselves an “advantage”, both in terms of points and momentum, as the two Glasgow sides fight for the title.
Asked how important Sunday’s win was for Celtic in terms of confidence and momentum, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s absolutely massive.
“Look at Rangers and Dundee United. Sometimes you have to find a way to win. You’re not going to play at your brilliant best week in, week out for the whole season. It’s very difficult to do that.
“I think sometimes it just puts down a marker. There’s probably all the Rangers fans sitting after dropping points thinking: ‘Yes, Dundee are going to do us a favour.’
“Then Giakoumakis pops up with another goal, scores a hat-trick. All of a sudden their confidence is sky-high.
“They have to keep that momentum going. They’ve now got themselves in front, not by much but they’re in front. Rangers are now chasing them down.
“Any little advantage they can get, they’re going to be taking. It really kind of stamps their authority moving forward.”

Celtic’s next game will see them take on Bodo/Glimt in their Europa Conference League knockout playoff.
Their next league fixture is away at Hibernian on Sunday.
