Rangers TV pundit thrilled by what Ryan Kent kept doing against Celtic and Hearts

Alan Hutton has heralded Ryan Kent for continually taking on opposition full-backs for Rangers against both Celtic and Hearts.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, applauded the 25-year-old for persisting where other wingers would have given up.

Kent notched up a hat-trick of assists in Sunday’s 5-0 win over Hearts, including delivering the cross for Alfredo Morelos’ opener.

Hutton admitted Kent has been too inconsistent for Rangers in recent months.

However, he praised the winger’s willingness to keep attacking full-backs instead of playing it safe.

Discussing Kent’s inconsistent form, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That’s a winger’s position. That’s what happens with the most some of the best ones in the world.

“To be fair to him, I think in the Old Firm game, he was trying hard to make something happen. It just happened that Juranovic played brilliantly on the night. Defensively he was solid and Kent struggled to get past him.

“That happens when you come up against a good full-back. What I do like about him, especially in the Hearts game, he’ll try, try, try again.

“Some wingers won’t do that. If they don’t get by the full-back on the first or second try, they’ll give up and just pass the ball back.

“He was willing to just keep going, knowing that he’s got the ability to get past people one-on-one and make things happen.

“He was a standout performer. Now he needs to keep that up, we want to see it for large periods of time because he’s more than capable of doing that.”

Kent has contributed 10 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions this term.

However, he has just two goals to his name so far.
