Rangers ‘will get loads of money’ after confirmed news amid ‘huge’ Ibrox claim – pundit
Frank McAvennie can’t understand why Rangers fans are annoyed with the announcement of a mid-season friendly with Celtic.
The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims it is only fair Gers fans in Australia get to watch their side in the flesh.
On Wednesday (2 March) the Australian A-League confirmed Celtic will face Rangers in a mid-season friendly down under in November.
McAvennie has slammed fans who are against the game going ahead.
“Celtic and Rangers have huge supporter clubs in Australia and most of them will have never seen them play,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“So go and put a show on. I don’t get why people are annoyed. They say it’s all for the money, of course it is.
“We are playing a World Cup in Qatar, that’s purely for money as well. Celtic and Rangers are right to go for this.
“They [Glasgow-based fans] don’t like it. so what? It will get screened on TV, you can watch it.
“It means those fans over there can go and watch them in person, that’s the main thing.
“Rangers and Celtic won’t treat it as a friendly either. It probably won’t be full teams, there will be youngsters, but it’s still an Old Firm.
“It will be full-blooded, a proper game. There will be tackles, it will be great for both clubs.

“Rangers have huge support in Australia, I don’t understand why Rangers fans over here are so annoyed.
“The club hasn’t hand any money because of Covid and they will get loads of money for this.”
