Rangers told to pay record-breaking fee for Lawrence Shankland after multiple offers rejected

Rangers will have to break the Scottish record fee to sign Hearts star Lawrence Shankland this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, Scottish correspondent Daniel Bowers revealed that the Gers would have to exceed the current record held by Scott Brown’s move from Hibernian to Celtic.

Brown joined the Hoops in 2007 for a reported £4.4million, which still remains the highest-ever transfer fee paid between Scottish clubs.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Hearts will demand a fee higher than Brown’s for Shankland, 28, following his exceptional form for the Edinburgh outfit.

The striker has been frequently linked with a move to the Ibrox side, who made moves to secure his services in the January transfer window.

Football Insider revealed (26 January) that Rangers were keen on a late bid to land the Scotland international in the winter window but Hearts would not sell him mid-season.

Shankland’s contract at Hearts is set to expire in the summer of 2025 and he has reportedly told the club he will not be penning an extension.

Football Insider understands he has rejected multiple contract offers from the club, including the most lucrative deal in the Edinburgh outfit’s history.

Despite the fact he will have just one year left on his deal this summer, Hearts are expected to fetch a huge fee by Scottish standards.

He is the Scottish top flight’s leading goalscorer so far this season with 20 and has scored 27 goals and provided four assists across 37 appearances in all competitions.
