Rangers ‘will invest’ as ‘£20m’ details revealed – Keith Wyness

Former Aberdeen chief Keith Wyness has insisted Rangers “will invest” and back Philippe Clement heavily if they qualify directly for the Champions League league phase.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Gers board now have a “renewed belief and trust” in Clement.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (9 March) that Rangers are set to boost their transfer budget by around £20million if they qualify for Champions League football next season.

The Ibrox club can only qualify directly for the competition by winning the Scottish Premiership title – and are two points ahead of Celtic with nine games to play.

Rangers could be set for £20m transfer investment this summer, says Wyness

Clement succeeded Michael Beale in October 2023 and has won 25 of his 31 games in charge.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Qualifying straight into the Champions League would be good for them.

“But it’s a very tight title race and there’s a long way to go with the Old Firm games.

“But from Rangers’ point of view, there is now a renewed belief and trust in Philippe Clement. They think they have got the right one after a few mistakes.

“They will invest. They will need that kind of money, the £20million, to do that.

“There’s still a big gap between Rangers and Celtic financially.

“Rangers will be looking to push the boat out and support Clement as best they can.”
