Rangers will land ‘incredible’ signing if Van Veen deal is finalised – Hutton

Kevin van Veen would be an “incredible” addition to the Rangers frontline should he make a move to Ibrox in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers and Tottenham defender Alan Hutton claimed the 32-year-old “knows what it takes” to thrive in the Scottish top flight after his 29-goal haul for Motherwell last season.

As revealed by Football Insider (29 December), the Gers have a stronger chance of signing the Groningen striker in January than reported target Lawrence Shankland.

Since his almighty final season at Fir Park, the Dutchman has returned to his native country with second-division side Groningen but has only netted five goals this season across 15 appearances.

Van Veen is open to a return to Scottish football and a move for him would be achievable in the Gers’ winter budget.

Hutton was adamant that his experience would improve Philippe Clement’s attacking options and that he would thrive at Rangers.

“I’d like to see him,” he told Football Insider.

“Having someone who knows the league and has scored a barrel-load of goals before moving on would be incredible.

“I’m not sure he’s been as prolific this season, having scored only five, but it’s a guy that knows what it takes.

“Going to Rangers, you’d think he’d get more opportunities to score.

“But it would be more options for Clement in forward areas.”
