‘Rangers will sell multiple stars this summer’ after ‘two offers submitted’
Rangers made no major signings in the January transfer window despite the need for major surgery in the Ibrox ranks.
Meanwhile, per The Scottish Sun (4 February), the Glasgow giants rejected bids for “at least two key players” on transfer deadline day – including Ridvan Yilmaz.
It was claimed Patrick Stewart was determined to keep the squad intact for the second half of the 2024-25 campaign.
Rangers sit second in the Scottish Premiership and are 13 points behind rivals Celtic after 26 top-flight games.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested why Stewart decided to reject bids for first-teamers.

Rangers sales expected in the off-season, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Rangers did not need to sell for financial reasons – and claimed the Ibrox club would have been at “risk of a spiral” if they sanctioned major departures.
The Glasgow side are out of the Scottish Cup but will face a two-legged Europa League round of 16 clash with Fenerbahce next month.
Wyness claimed there will be “a lot of moves out” in the summer at Rangers.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think there’s a big financial issue, they’ll have enough money in reserve to just about get through the season.
Player | Value (€) |
Nicolas Raskin | 6.5million |
Mohamed Diomande | 6million |
John Souttar | 4.5million |
Nedim Bajrami | 4.5million |
Ridvan Yilmaz | 4.5million |
“At the time these bids were rejected, things hadn’t turned around quite as well as they have now.
“The risk of a spiral in the second half of the season would’ve been too much if they sold some of their top assets.
“Stewart has ensured this season will be okay, they are going to finish second and get away with it – because it looked worse at the start of this season.
“I think there will be a lot of moves out in the summer to resolve this squad.”

Rangers in talks over £150m takeover
Football Insider revealed on Thursday (20 February) that Rangers chiefs are likely to be valuing the club at around £150million as Ibrox takeover talks are advancing.
The Record reported on Wednesday (19 February) an American consortium is in advanced talks to become the largest single shareholder at Ibrox.
Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe, who is in charge of 49ers Enterprises, is understood to be one of the key men behind the multi-million-pound proposal.
