Rangers would be taking ‘monumental gamble’ if they hire one manager after Steven Gerrard rejection
Steven Gerrard’s rejection of Rangers has left the club on the back foot in their search for a new manager.
Gerrard has turned down the chance to return to Rangers for a second spell, meaning the hunt for Russell Martin’s successor continues.
Martin was sacked after 123 days at Rangers, and Gerrard had held talks in London with the club’s hierarchy.
Rangers currently sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership table, following a disastrous start to the season under Martin.

Danny Rohl appointment would be a ‘monumental gamble’
Sean Dyche has already turned down the chance to become the next Rangers boss, so Danny Rohl is now one of the leading contenders to take the Ibrox hotseat.
Rohl left Sheffield Wednesday in July amid the club’s financial troubles under owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Tom English, as per BBC Sport [12 October], believes Rohl’s managerial career to date means the appointment would be a huge risk.
“This is now something of a horror show for the Rangers board. Their known first choice has ditched them. They’re now on to the supporting cast,” English said.
“Danny Rohl is supposedly the front-runner. Rohl, 36, was an assistant manager at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and with the German national team.
“His management career exists of 89 games with Sheffield Wednesday, finishing 20th in his first season – he guided them to safety when the drop looked distinctly possible – and then 12th in the season after that.
“At a club mired in ownership and financial troubles, 12th was an admirable performance. He left by mutual consent in July this year.
“To Rangers, the brevity of Rohl’s managerial career would represent a monumental gamble – and after Martin, the new Ibrox board probably thought they were done with monumental gambles.”
Rohl became the youngest boss in the English football league when he was appointed Sheffield Wednesday boss in 2023.

Steven Gerrard’s reasoning for rejecting Rangers revealed
Following the news of Gerrard turning down the chance to return to Ibrox, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton gave his reasoning for the decision.
Sutton posted on X [11 October]: “He’s assessed the squad…“
Martin made 11 signings during the summer transfer window, and so far none of them have had an impact at Ibrox.
The next Rangers boss will need to get more out of recruits like Mikey Moore and Thelo Aasgarrad who have not impressed the Gers support so far.
