Marcelo Bielsa is convinced Tyler Roberts can have a huge influence on the Leeds United bid to win promotion, Football Insider understands.
The 20-year-old has made just two substitute appearances for United this season after missing the start of the campaign with a knee injury.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Bielsa has big plans for Roberts and thinks he can be a “sensation” for the team as the season goes on.
The Argentine plans to make the versatile forward a key member of his side in the central attacking midfield role in which he showed encouraging signs in the second half of the last campaign.
Roberts, who joined Leeds for £4million from West Brom last year, had an extended run in the starting XI between February and the end of April.
But he had to have fluid drained from his knee in May and his spell on the sidelines carried on into this season.
It meant Roberts did not return to the squad until the middle of last month and he is fighting to get back in the side.
The Wales international suffered the humiliation of being substituted in the midweek 1-0 win over West Brom 30 minutes after he was introduced as a half-time replacement for the injured Jamie Shackleton.
Bielsa offered an apology to the player after the match, and reiterated that when he addressed the issue again in his media conference on Thursday.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are close to sealing a new deal after offer accepted.
