Rasmus Hojlund handed ‘crazy’ Man United escape route with ‘loan-to-buy offer’

Rasmus Hojlund endured a tough season at Man United as they finished 15th and failed to win the Europa League final against Tottenham.

The 22-year-old scored just 10 goals in 52 appearances – with just four of those strikes coming in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed last week (20 May) that Man United are ready to sell Joshua Zirkzee or Hojlund to make way for top striker target Liam Delap.

The Denmark international arrived at Old Trafford from Atalanta in 2023 for a fee of around £72million after add-ons.

Hojlund may have been handed a potential escape route from United – who will be without European football in the 2024-25 campaign.

Inter Milan ‘crazy’ about Hojlund, according to reports

According to Italian site Inter Live (26 May), Inter Milan are “crazy” about Hojlund – who previously had success in Serie A with Atalanta.

It is claimed the Champions League finalists are ready to come forward with an initial loan bid with option to buy – which would become an obligation if conditions are met.

The report suggests a four-year contract is ready to be tabled, which would come into effect in 2026 – after the expiry of the loan.

Hojlund has hit 25 goals and notched six assists in 95 games across all competitions for Man United.

Man United overpaid to land Hojlund

Football Insider Verdict

There can be little doubt that Man United overpaid to land Hojlund, with the club seriously unlikely to recoup their £72million (after add-ons) outlay this summer.

However, there are question marks over whether Delap can be considered an upgrade on the struggling Dane at a crucial time for United.

Hojlund has struggled with the pace and physicality of the Premier League, two of Delap’s main attributes, but the England Under-21 international is yet to piece together a consistent season in senior football.

Joshua Zirkzee is also on the books at Old Trafford but looks set to be relegated to second-choice behind any new signing – a decision which does not come as a surprise after his first season in England.
