Rasmus Hojlund reacts to Matthijs de Ligt message amid Man United exit rumours

Rasmus Hojlund is one of several players linked with a Manchester United exit this summer, but he’s still been keeping a close eye on his current teammates.

Hojlund joined the Red Devils from Atalanta for £72million (Sky Sports) in the summer of 2023.

Although he didn’t set the world alight, he showed promise in his first season with 16 goals and two assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

However, the Denmark international endured a terrible 2024/25 campaign, managing just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances as United finished 15th — and 10 goals in 52 outings overall.

Hojlund has been widely tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer as Ruben Amorim seeks to rebuild his squad — with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson among those whispered to replace him.

For now, Hojlund is with the United squad for the Premier League Summer Series in the United States and played 66 minutes in their 2-1 win over West Ham United in New Jersey at the weekend.

After the match, teammate Matthijs de Ligt posted on Instagram to thank the supporters who turned out to watch the victory at MetLife Stadium.

“Prep for the new season continues!” De Ligt wrote. “Another game to build on, thank you for the support last night.”

De Ligt’s post garnered thousands of likes, including from Hojlund and fellow Man United teammates Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo. Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries also liked the post.

Man United’s striker search continues

Man United have endured a frustrating search for a new goalscorer, with Viktor Gyokeres joining Arsenal and Aston Villa extremely reluctant to part ways with Ollie Watkins.

It gets even worse for United, who missed out to Chelsea on the capture of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town earlier this summer — according to former Everton and Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I thought Ollie Watkins would have made sense for them, but they’re obviously going for a younger situation.

“We’ll have to wait and see where they go because losing Liam Delap was a big blow to them. I think they really believed he was going to be joining.

“If they had got Delap with Mbuemo and Cunha, then that would have been an interesting forward trio, but there’s still that big gap at number nine. Maybe they’re going to be stuck with Rasmus Hojlund; we’ll have to wait and see.”

United have a tough start to the 2025/26 Premier League season as they host title-chasing Arsenal. Before then, the Red Devils have further friendlies against Bournemouth, Everton and Fiorentina to look forward to.
