Rasmus Hojlund reacts to Matthijs de Ligt’s update amid Man United exit rumours
Rasmus Hojlund has reacted to a new update from Matthijs de Ligt amid rumours that he could depart the Old Trafford outfit this summer.
Hojlund was unable to make much of a positive impact in his second season in Manchester, with just four goals scored in 34 league appearances after netting 10 in 30 league games in his debut campaign.
The striker was signed from Atalanta in 2023 for a fee of £72million [BBC], and has seen competition for places up-front arrive this summer after Matheus Cunha joined United from Wolves last month.
Hojlund is unlikely to still be at Old Trafford beyond this summer, as recently revealed to Football Insider by former chief scout Mick Brown.
Football Insider also revealed on 4 July that United’s move for Ollie Watkins hinges on Hojlund’s future at the club, and so an exit seems pretty likely despite the Red Devils’ move for Bryan Mbeumo hitting a stumbling block.

Matthijs de Ligt shares pre-season update at United
Dutch international centre-back De Ligt also struggled last season amid numerous injury issues in his debut United campaign, but the club do not look set to sanction his sale this early in his Old Trafford career.
He has returned to their Carrington facility this week with Amorim’s first-team squad, and took to Instagram on Wednesday (16 July) to share an update to supporters of him on the training pitch.
De Ligt’s post was reacted to by teammate Hojlund, who left a like, while Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and William Saliba were among those that followed suit.
Hojlund needs to leave United as soon as possible
Football Insider verdict
United’s 2024/25 campaign was one to remember for all the wrong reasons, as they finished 16th in the Premier League and were beaten in the Europa League final by fellow strugglers Tottenham.
Portuguese boss Amorim clearly has huge job on his hands to get the club to where they should be, but there is a feeling that they cannot get much worse, and letting Hojlund go makes sense as they aim to improve next season.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |

Zirkzee is still on their books, Cunha has recently joined United from Wolves, and they maintain a strong interest in Brentford forward Mbeumo despite interest being knocked back, so Hojlund is already likely to get much less game-time next season as it stands.
The Red Devils are clearly targeting more striker signings too after Cunha, with Nicolas Jackson was recently linked to Old Trafford.
Hojlund has been linked with a move to Serie A champions Napoli in recent months, and that would be a great move for him to get his career back on track in a league and country that he is already familiar with.
He clearly does not have much of a future at United, and despite showing glimpses of the talent that saw the club shell out a sizeable fee for his services two years ago, a move away seems like the most realistic and viable option for him right now.
