Celtic player ratings for Scotland v Malta: 26-year-old a let down

By James Black

Just like on Friday night, Gordon Strachan’s Scotland side had an incredible six Celtic players in their starting line-up for the comfortable 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Malta on Monday.

Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths all started at Hampden as the Scots took a step closer to an unlikely play-off place for Russia 2018.

Goals either side of the break from Christophe Berra and Griffiths gave the Scots their second win in four days as they try and secure qualification to a major tournament for the first time since the 1998 World Cup in France.

Coupled with England’s 2-1 Wembley comeback win over second-placed Slovakia, Scotland are now just one point off a potential play-off place with just two games left with Strachan’s side playing Slovakia next.
