Ray Wilkins: Tottenham have this massive disadvantage in the Premier League title race
By Matt Farr
Former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins believes Tottenham are at a disadvantage in the Premier League title race because they have had a busier fixture schedule.
Tottenham have had to compete, albeit briefly, on two European fronts this season, first in the Champions League group-stage, and subsequently in the Europa League.
Premier League leaders Chelsea, meanwhile, did not qualify for European competitions last season, and have been able to focus entirely on their domestic success.
Wilkins believes Chelsea’s fresh approach to games has handed them a massive advantage in the Premier League title race, where they sit four points clear of Tottenham with six matches to play.
He told the Premier League Daily show on Sky Sports on Tuesday: “I don’t know what is missing. Are Chelsea just better than Tottenham at this moment in time? I would say, probably yes.

“There has been no European football of course for Chelsea this year, so that’s been a real bonus as far as they’re concerned. They’ve been fresh as a daisy every time they have gone out to play.
“So from that aspect I think they’ve had a massive advantage. But I just think Chelsea are better than Tottenham at the moment.”
The two sides locked horns in a thrilling encounter in the FA Cup semi final at Wembley on Saturday, but it was Chelsea who ran out winners in a 4-2 victory.
But the battle for the Premier League title is far from over, and Tottenham will be determined to avenge their FA Cup exit by maintaining their challenge for the title.
They face in-form Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, following Chelsea’s visit from Southampton on Tuesday night.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been dealt a significant injury blow as this defender may not return this season.
