RB Leipzig name Yan Diomande price as Premier League ‘first choice’ revealed

RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande is expected to be the subject of interest from throughout Europe this summer.

The 19-year-old joined the Bundesliga club in the summer, and has scored eight goals and provided five assists in just 22 league games.

Bayern Munich are among several clubs already beginning to circle for the Ivory Coast international, who scored at the Africa Cup of Nations last month.

The Telegraph have reported that Diomande is expected to command at least £70million this summer, with Premier League clubs circling.

Tottenham, Man United and Liverpool are expected to be among the main contenders, while Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal can also be expected to be keeping tabs.

Yan Diomande clarified Liverpool rumours

Diomande cost Leipzig around £17m to sign from CD Leganes last summer, after scoring just two goals in La Liga last season.

Incredibly, the winger made just 10 senior appearances before this season, but impressed so much that Leipzig were desperate to have him.

And for good reason. Diomande has been a revelation in the Bundesliga this season, and is rapidly establishing himself among the very best young talents in world football.

The winger has everything to become a top-level forward. Brilliant pace, stunning technical ability and a devastating shot.

Perhaps what is so exciting about the 19-year-old, however, is the confidence. Diomande never shows any sign of fear and is a constant threat, no matter the opponent.

When Liverpool were initially linked, the Ivorian clarified emerging rumours that the Reds are his dream club.

“People made it out to be my dream club,” he told BILD. “But first and foremost, it’s my dad’s favourite club. It was always his great wish to see me there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield.

“He always raved about Steven Gerrard. I was too young to see him play. We didn’t even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig.”

What Ole Werner said about Diomande will excite

It has not been the ideal opening season for Leipzig manager Ole Werner – his team sit fifth in the Bundesliga and have won just one of their last six games across all competitions – but Diomande has been a consistent bright spot.

Speaking about the winger in the first half of the season, he said: “He often gets past his opponents without any tricks, simply because he’s so dynamic.

“But what’s even more important to me is that he works for the team and is very good at counter-pressing. It’s a matter of attitude, and he demonstrates that.”

Diomande will be well aware that Premier League clubs will especially take notice of that. The move may well be early for the 19-year-old, but he certainly looks to be a player made for the English top-flight.
