
Reading star Sam Smith undergoing Wrexham medical as £2m deal agreed – sources
Reading striker Sam Smith is undergoing a medical at Wrexham after agreeing a £2million move, sources have told Football Insider.
The 26-year-old is poised to join the Welsh club for a club-record fee.
Smith’s arrival will bolster Wrexham‘s push for a third consecutive promotion with Championship football firmly in the sights.
He has made 26 appearances across all competitions for Reading this term, with 25 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.
The forward has hit 11 goals and notched two assists in the 2024-25 campaign.
Smith is a proven operator at League One level having scored 54 times in 167 appearances in the third tier with Reading and Cambridge United.
He came through the ranks with the Royals but left for Cambridge on a free transfer in 2021 – before returning to Berkshire two years later.

The left-footer has also had loan spells with Cheltenham, Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury and Oxford United.
Wrexham sit third in League One after drawing 1-1 against leaders Birmingham last week (23 January).
Phil Parkinson’s side are six points adrift of second-place Wycombe Wanderers with 18 games to play of the 2024-25 campaign.
