‘Real Madrid expect to get what they want from Liverpool on Trent Alexander-Arnold’

Real Madrid are looking to secure an agreement with Liverpool to complete the early signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Following a season that has been played amid a backdrop of the uncertainty around the future of the right-back, it has now been confirmed he will not be at Anfield next season.

Earlier this week, Alexander-Arnold announced he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of this season.

There is a strong expectation that once his departure is official, Alexander-Arnold will complete a move to Real Madrid, who have reason to try and bring him to the club as soon as possible.

Real Madrid confidence emerges over Trent Alexander-Arnold

This summer, the La Liga giants are set to compete in the Club World Cup, with their first game scheduled to take place on 18 June.

However, Alexander-Arnold‘s contract with Liverpool does not officially expire until the 30 June, meaning the two clubs will have agree a deal if the right-back is to play for Madrid at the start of the tournament.

According to an update from The Athletic, there is a belief at the Spanish giants that an agreement between the teams can be reached to allow the England international to join Real early.

That is apparently driven by what is described as “great respect” between the La Liga giants and Liverpool.

There are also indications that only a “nominal fee” will be enough to ensure that Alexander-Arnold will be part of the Real Madrid squad from the start of the Club World Cup.

Liverpool fans will not like ‘nominal fee’ claim

Football Insider Verdict

There have already been claims that Liverpool should demand as much as possible from Real Madrid to let Alexander-Arnold join them early for the Club World Cup.

With that in mind, this suggestion that a deal could be done for a low price is not going to go down well in the red half of Merseyside.

There is some understandable frustration that such a key player with a boyhood connection to the club has allowed his contract to run down, costing the chance of fee to help source his replacement.

As a result, if he is to be allowed to go Liverpool surely need to be demanding as much as they can to release the right-back early to at least get some financial windfall from this situation.

That surely means if he is allowed to go for a low price, there will be some big questions asked of the decision makers at Anfield, not least from the fanbase.

Therefore it feels important for Liverpool to manage this situation correctly in order for them to make as much out of it as they possibly can.
