'Remarkable' - Brendan Rodgers claims Euro titans tried to sign Celtic ace
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that European titans Real Madrid were so impressed when they faced Charly Musonda last season that they tried to sign him.
The 21-year-old Belgian ace, who signed for the Hoops on loan for 18 months from Chelsea, spent last season on loan at Real Betis, where he came up against the reigning Champions League winners, who were apparently impressed with what they saw.
“I remember talking to Chelsea about him last year.” Rodgers began, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“The guys there were telling me that the day after he played against Real Madrid for Real Betis, Real Madrid tried to sign him from Chelsea.
“That is the talent that he has. He has this remarkable skill and quality and he has speed with it as well.”
Musonda will be tasked with providing the creativity that the Hoops gave been lacking since the long-time injuries suffered by Patrick Roberts and Tom Rogic put them out of action.
He has been on the fringes of the Chelsea squad, and recently made an appearance against Brighton, when he provided an assist for a goal scored by Victor Moses.
Musonda may make his Hoops debut against Hearts at Celtic Park on Tuesday night.
The Bhoys will be without both Craig Gordon, who is out for the next three months with a knee injury, and Leigh Griffiths, who is out for a month with a calf problem, for the match against the Edinburgh side.
The Hoops will go into the game looking for revenge against the only team to have defeated in the league so far this season.
