Recently relegated right-back next most likely Celtic signing – Football Whispers
Recently relegated West Brom right-back Craig Dawson is the most likely next signing for Celtic, according to football transfer experts Football Whispers.
They have made the claim that the 28-year-old, whose West Brom side finished bottom of the Premier League, is likely to make the move to the Scottish champions.
Dawson was a first-team regular for the Baggies last season, making 32 appearances, and he has been linked with a move to the Hoops before, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Hoops and Newcastle were battling it out for the player.
The Daily Mail report claims that the player is worth £15million, but despite this Football Whispers claims that the deal could happen for the Hoops, giving it a 3.3/5 rating.
The site rates transfer rumours from around the world, with the higher the mark out of five the more likely a deal is to take place.
Football Insider verdict
Dawson would be an ideal signing for the Hoops this summer, as he would solve the long-term right-back issue the Hoops have. With Mikael Lustig not getting any younger, and Cristian Gamboa out of the picture completely, the Bhoys need to find a new right-back as soon as possible. Dawson would certainly fit the bill, and he is the type of signing that would show that the Hoops aren’t messing about this season. However, there is little to no chance that Brendan Rodgers would spend £15million on a player, that just isn’t realistic for a club like Celtic. There is far more money to be made in the Premier League, and should Dawson leave West Brom he is more likely to end up there than with the Hoops. If the Bhoys could afford Dawson there is no doubt they would make a move for him, but these days even relegated Premier League players would probably be far too expensive for the Hoops.
