Redknapp issues warning to Tottenham player after win v Huddersfield

Jamie Redknapp has warned Tottenham ace Dele Alli that he must cut out the “silly incidents” in his performances if he wants to get everyone raving about him again.

Alli, 21, was shown a yellow card in the latter stages of Spurs’ 4-0 win at Huddersfield on Saturday for diving to try and win a penalty for his side.

The England international hasn’t been at the peak of his game either, and has been on the end of criticism from the fans in recent weeks for not matching the ability that everyone knows he possesses.

Former Spurs midfielder Redknapp has urged Alli to stamp incidents like this out of his game before he can return back to the top.

“This time last season, we were all talking about Dele Alli’s world-class, all-action displays. Now he is grabbing headlines by getting involved in silly incidents,” said Redknapp on the Daily Mail website.

He added: “When Dele is on top of his game, he is unplayable. He is a joy to watch and I am one of his biggest fans. But at the moment, he’s not playing to the best of his ability.

“He seems far too concerned by what his opponents are doing rather than his own performance. Dele is still a very young player but he must learn to shut out these distractions. We want to get back to talking about his brilliance.”

Because of Alli’s antics at the weekend, not many have talked about how the ex-MK Dons star’s performance was actually better than it had been in recent weeks.

He controlled the game and was a large part of what was an emphatic win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men which put them third in the Premier League table.

Alli has made eight appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and supplying one assist in the process.

His focus will now be on international duty as he looks to help England qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

In other Tottenham news, Pochettino has made a big admission about this “suffering” first team player.
