Jamie Redknapp has predicted in the Daily Mail that Leeds United will return to the Premier League after 15 years through promotion this season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side is currently third in the Championship table, adrift of leaders Norwich City and second-placed Sheffield United after losing to the Blades prior to the international break.
But high-profile pundit Redknapp is convince that Leeds will ultimately triumph in the automatic promotion race, along with Norwich, and backed Aston Villa to make it through the play-offs.
“I really like Norwich and Leeds will come up from the Championship with them. Jack Grealish, the best player outside the Premier League, has returned at the perfect time for Aston Villa and he can fire them to promotion, too,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
Football Insider verdict:
Leeds fans will love the upbeat verdict from Redknapp, an in-demand pundit steeped in football who knows his onions when it comes to what it takes to get into the Premier League and stay there. Certainly, many Whites are not necessarily as optimistic, with Norwich and Sheffield United both on golden runs of form and demonstrating the staying power to go all the way to the Premier League without recourse to the end-of-season play-offs. That is something Leeds will be eager to avoid, and they are certainly well placed to finish in the top-two ahead of the final eight matches of the Championship campaign. It all depends on which teams avoid injuries to key players and can hold their nerve as the top flight comes within touching distance. Leeds don’t have a big squad, quite the opposite, but they were the early season pacesetters and have continued to stay firmly in the mix.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED by Football Insider that the club are to hold talks with three brilliant players ahead of the summer transfer window.
