Reece James and Caicedo react to Cucurella’s message after Chelsea masterclass

Marc Cucurella had a motivated message for Chelsea supporters after scoring the winning goal against Manchester United.

Chelsea secured three vital points in their push for a Champions League place with a tense 1–0 win over Man United on 17 May.

The Blues were nearly dealt a major setback when Harry Maguire found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for a marginal offside.

The decision, made using the semi-automated system, sparked further debate with former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett calling for changes to the offside rule in light of such tight calls.

Despite the scare, Chelsea remained composed and gradually took control, showing more attacking intent as the game progressed.

Reece James delivered a standout performance, and after a brilliant piece of play, provided a precise cross for Cucurella to head home the winner.

Following the victory, the Spaniard was full of confidence as Enzo Maresca’s side moved a step closer to returning to Europe’s elite competition next season.

The full-back shared a message on Instagram after the win, captioning his post: “We keep fighting for our objectives!”

He received plenty of support from his teammates, with James commenting with a heart emoji, while Nicolas Jackson and Moises Caicedo showed their appreciation by liking the post.

Cucurella has been in outstanding form for Chelsea this season and has fully justified Enzo Maresca’s decision to make him the first-choice left-back.

That show of faith may have contributed to others in the squad moving on, with both Renato Veiga and Ben Chilwell securing loan deals during the January transfer window.

As for Cucurella, he has been a consistent presence in the side, making 46 appearances across all competitions. His attacking contributions have also stood out, with seven goals and four assists to his name.

Chelsea lead race for Leroy Sane as Arsenal circle

While securing a Champions League place remains the immediate focus, it appears the Blues are already active in the transfer market.

Football Insider revealed that Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign Leroy Sane on a free transfer, amid competition from Arsenal.

The 29-year-old winger is out of contract at Bayern Munich next month and recently changed agents – a move that has sparked further speculation about a summer departure.

With uncertainty surrounding the futures of players like Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke, a player of Sane’s calibre and experience could provide the quality and depth Maresca is seeking on the flanks.
