Reece James and Moises Caicedo react to Malo Gusto’s announcement

Chelsea teammates including Reece James and Moises Caicedo were among those quick to react to Malo Gusto’s latest announcement.

The Frenchman has played more of a supporting role this season under Enzo Maresca, with James and, at times, even Caicedo preferred in the right-back position.

Gusto hasn’t impressed this season at Chelsea, with a stop-start campaign and struggling to gain consistent form. He has registered just 19 starts in the Premier League as injuries continued to disrupt his rhythm.

Despite that, the 22-year-old had reason to celebrate as the domestic season draws to a close, with his announcement coming ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.

Malo Gusto earns France recall despite Chelsea struggles

Despite having a rotational role under Maresca this season, Gusto has received a call-up to the France national team from manager Didier Deschamps.

The 22-year-old’s last international appearance came in October 2023 and he will now rejoin the squad ahead of their Nations League clash against Spain.

Chelsea and the France national team confirmed the news on Instagram, prompting reactions from teammates including Caicedo, James, and Nicolas Jackson, who all liked the post. Gusto himself reposted the announcement, which read:

“Let’s go, Malo! His last appearance was in October 2023 in a 2-1 win against the Netherlands. Here he is again, called by Didier Deschamps to defend the Blue jersey.”

Gusto had previously been linked with a move to Liverpool following an impressive start to the season, but his form faded in the second half of the campaign due to inconsistent performances and injuries.

Football Insider have since reported that Liverpool are now close to signing Jeremie Frimpong, having shifted their attention elsewhere.

As Chelsea prepare for their final Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest and look ahead to a Conference League final, the club are already planning for the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are set to return for a move for Man United winger Alejandro Garnacho after failing with a move in the January window..

Following United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, the Red Devils are set to miss out on European football next season. That will likely have significant financial consequences, with the club potentially needing to offload assets.

A sale of Garnacho, who came through United’s academy, would represent pure profit on the balance sheet, making a deal more feasible for the Blues as they explore a fresh approach for the Argentine.
