Reece James shares Chelsea training ground update after he’s axed

Chelsea captain Reece James took to social media to share a training ground update ahead of their Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Saturday (February 22).

The 25-year-old dropped to the bench for Chelsea’s humiliating 3-0 Premier League defeat to Brighton in their previous game, coming off the bench for the last 25 minutes.

James hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes since the 1-1 draw with Man United at the start of November as Enzo Maresca’s side have fallen out of the Champions League spots.

Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle has urged Maresca to stop rotating his line-up and start James for their next five games.

Football Insider revealed (February 20) that Maresca is facing the sack at Chelsea if he does not oversee a major turnaround.

Reece James has been plagued by injuries at Chelsea

James is easing his way back into things after several injury issues, starting seven of his ten games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing one assist in his 556 minutes of action.

The right-back’s first hamstring injury came in pre-season before he made a temporary return, playing four games before picking up a similar injury in training in late November.

James took to Instagram to share an image from their most recent training session ahead of their crucial game with Aston Villa.

Outspoken former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel believes James needs to do more as a captain or be stripped of the honour altogether.

The West Londoners have only won three times in their previous 11 games across all competitions going into the game at Villa Park.
