‘Reece James to retire from football’ after devastating Chelsea update – fans
Chelsea supporters have told club captain Reece James to retire from football after Enzo Maresca has provided another disappointing update regarding his fitness.
The 24-year-old missed out on Chelsea’s last two games against Leicester City and Aston Villa after suffering another hamstring injury, and there is currently no sign of an immediate comeback.
During the Southampton pre-match press conference Maresca said, “He’s the same situation more or less, he is getting better but he is still weeks to come back.”
It continues an injury-stricken run for the England international who has managed to make just 39 appearances for the club since the start of the 2022-23 campaign across all competitions.
James had managed to feature in four consecutive games at the end of October and the start of November, starting three and lasting the full 90 minutes in two of them.
However, James’ latest absence is one that is creating headaches for the Blues as to what they should do with him as he appears unable to shake the issue.
Chelsea supporters believe Reece James should retire
Chelsea have found a replacement for James at right-back in Malo Gusto, who has become a regular in the team throughout the past two seasons.
James remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028, but some Chelsea fans have now urged him to consider retiring as his injuries continue to pile up.
