‘It’s relentless’ – Tottenham ace reveals extent of Pochettino demands
By Guy Giles
Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier has lifted the lid on the intense training regime and fitness demands of Mauricio Pochettino.
Trippier moved from Burnley to Spurs for a fee of around £4million after the Clarets were relegated in 2015, and admitted that the intensity of training at Spurs was a shock to the system.
In his time at Spurs, Trippier has gone from playing a back-up role to Kyle Walker to now being Pochettino’s favoured right-back, and the Manchester native is under no illusions why.
In an interview with The Times, Trippier said: “Training is really intense — since I’ve got there the gaffer has got me in great shape, and physically I feel so much better. It’s relentless really how much stuff we do, sometimes double sessions.
“I wasn’t in the best shape when I came to Tottenham and the manager let me know that. Within six months I was in great condition. You learn a lot from the nutritionists, eating the right stuff at the right times, otherwise it’ll catch up to you.”

Trippier continued: “When I was at Burnley and we got our body fat done I had a really good percentage. Sean Dyche was happy. I went to Tottenham and I was well high. They pinch you tougher at Tottenham.”
Former Manchester City trainee Trippier has forced his way into the England squad with his recent form for Spurs.
Last season, Trippier provided an impressive five assists in his 12 Premier League appearances, just one less than Kyle Walker who played 33 league games.
This season Trippier has started even more impressively, laying on four assists in eight league games, with a further two in two Champions League appearances.
While Spurs new signing Serge Aurier is providing competition at the right-back spot, Trippier seems to be Pochettino’s preferred option in the Premier League, and is repaying his boss with this career-best form.
