Sky journalist reveals most likely player to replace Dwight Gayle at Newcastle
By Abigail Withey
Arsenal forward Lucas Perez is the “most likely” candidate to take over from Dwight Gayle at Newcastle United, according to a reliable journalist.
The 28-year-old Gunners flop has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park for much of the summer transfer window, and although rumours died down slightly it looks as though a deadline day deal could still be on.
Keith Downie, a Sky Sports journalist for the north east, has revealed that Perez is the most likely candidate to potentially replace Gayle, while Chelsea’s Loic Remy and Liverpool’s Danny Ings are in the mix too.
The Sky reporter claims that the Magpies remain “reluctant to let” their top scorer leave the club until they get a replacement.
Downie revealed the information on his verified Twitter account on deadline day.

Gayle has had links with Fulham and Sky Sports claims that the club have submitted a £15 million bid for the star, but he is still expected to be at training on Thursday with his fellow team mates.
The forward was key to Newcastle’s success in the Championship last season after he netted 23 goals during 32 appearances to drive his team into the top flight.
Football Insider verdict
Replacing Dwight Gayle with Lucas Perez would be decent business for Newcastle. Perez was unlucky at the Emirates and didn’t really get a chance at the Emirates, but when he did play he proved he’s got the quality to perform at Premier League level. Gayle is a proven goalscorer in the Championship but there are big doubts whether he can do the same at the top level.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are willing to meet the £18.5million valuation of this international playmaker.
