‘It has been non-stop’ – Kieran Tierney delivers verdict on Celtic busy schedule
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney has admitted that he and his team-mates are looking forward to the January winter break.
After the Bhoys take on Rangers on the December 30 they aren’t in action again until a Scottish Cup tie against Brechin on January 20.
The 21-year-old disclosed that the Hoops players have found their extremely busy schedule difficult to deal with at times, with the Scottish Premiership league leaders playing nine matches in December alone and having to cope with the Champions League group stages.
“It will be good to get some time off in January because the team needs it. Since the gaffer came in we’ve been at it solid for 18 months – it has been non-stop”, he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
Tierney, who was a mainstay of the Celtic side which set the British record of 69 domestic matches without defeat, saluted the consistency shown by his team-mates during the run which has seen then play football non-stop for two years.
“I honestly think it makes what we achieved all the more remarkable because it has been so full on since the gaffer came in,” he added.
Tierney will be play a big part in the Hoops’ next league game, the top of the table clash with Aberdeen.
The Bhoys go into the match five points ahead of their nearest challengers, with the chance to go a huge eight points clear with a win over Derek McInnes’ side.
However, a victory for the Dons would see the lead shrink down to just two points and would blow the Scottish Premiership title race wide open.
