Reo Hatate ‘won’t start for Celtic again’ – fans explode at what they saw vs Dundee

Celtic fans do not want to see one player start for the club again after putting in a poor performance against Dundee.

It took extra-time for Celtic to beat Dundee 2-1 in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, with Junior Adamu scoring on his debut, before Sebastian Tounekti netted the winner.

Adamu equalised in the 97th minute, with Ethan Hamilton’s early second half goal nearly giving Dundee a shock win over their Scottish Premiership rivals.

The result keeps Martin O’Neill’s unbeaten streak alive since he took the Celtic job for a second spell this season, with focus now returning to league action against Livingston next.

Reo Hatate savaged for latest Celtic display

O’Neill may have decisions to make in his starting line-up following the latest developments at Celtic Park.

Former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed for Celtic until the end of the season, with the 32-year-old unveiled to the home support before the victory over Dundee.

There is also concern about Reo Hatate’s form, with many supporters believing the 28-year-old has already checked out of the club.

Palmeiras were offered the chance to sign Hatate, although the Japan international will not move to Brazil.

Hatate’s future at Celtic though remain uncertain, and supporters think he is slipping down the pecking order under O’Neill due to his performances.

Callum McGregor comes in for questioning after Dundee win

Callum McGregor’s performance against Dundee was also criticised by former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan.

Allan believed the Celtic captain was constantly troubled by former Rangers winger Scott Wright and Yan Dhanda.

The 32-year-old was linked with a move to Saudi in January after former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers took over at Al Qadsiah.

There could be a different look to Celtic’s midfield next season if Hatate and McGregor leave, with Paulo Bernardo another player who could depart amid a lack of game time this season.

Whilst Celtic have an option to extend Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time at the club by a further year, it remains to be seen how quickly he will get up to speed in Glasgow.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has not played a single minute of first team football since May 2025, and had been without a club since August.
