Report: 26-year-old to start for Leeds v Derby County in early team news

By Russell Edge

Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson is set to start for the club in their clash with Derby County at Elland Road on Tuesday night, according to a report.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim in their live match day text on their website (31/10, 5:45 PM) that the Swedish international is expected to come in for the injured Liam Cooper, who was ruled out of action with a dead leg suffered against Sheffield United on Friday.

Despite being one of the club’s biggest stars over the past 12 months, Jansson has endured a difficult couple of weeks, dropping to the bench in the 3-0 win over Bristol City and the 2-1 defeat to the Blades, who he did appear as a substitute against.

He has 11 league appearances under his belt this season, and 48 total outings during his Leeds career, scoring three times across all competitions.

The Whites will be hoping his return can help them return to winning ways having lost ground in their hunt for promotion, despite leading the way earlier on in the campaign.

The Whites have suffered four defeats in their last five games and now sit seven points behind league leaders Sheffield United and six points behind Wolves in second, the final of the automatic promotion spots.

In other Leeds United news, Derby boss Gary Rowett has said there is nothing to fear about Elland Road.
