Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is set to leave the club during the January transfer window, according to a report.
The Express claims that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to reshape his squad and he is willing to offload the 28-year-old when the transfer window reopens at the start of the new year.
The newspaper reports that the North London club are not keen on extending Walcott’s current deal at the Emirates Stadium where he reportedly earns a weekly wage of £110,000.
The report claims that fellow Premier League side Southampton are looking to snap the forward and they are ready to spend around £12million -£15million on him in January.
Fellow top-flight teams Everton and West Ham United are reportedly also interested in landing the Englishman alongside Serie A outfit Inter Milan.
After the Gunners suffered a damaging 3-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace last season, Walcott has spent of his time on the substitutes bench and he did not feature as Arsenal lifted the FA Cup in May.
Although the winger has contributed with three goals this season, he has failed to start a single Premier League game and he has only complete 90 minutes on one occasion.
Walcott’s current contract at the Emirates runs out in 2019.
Football Insider verdict
Leaving Arsenal could potentially revive Walcott’s footballer career. The winger has simply failed to produce on a consistent basis during his 11 years at the North London club and he now finds himself on the fringes of the first-team squad. With England recently qualifying for next year’s World Cup, Walcott’s name has not been mentioned as a candidate for the 23-man squad and if he wants to taken into consideration, he needs to serious consider his future. A move back to Southampton could be a masterstroke for all parties involved as the Saints are struggling for goals right now and Walcott does tend to find the back of the net when he is given a chance.
In other Arsenal news, the Gunners are reportedly interested in signing this Manchester United player.
