Report: Arsenal eye Premier League speed machine as Sanchez replacement

By Laura O’Leary

Arsenal are preparing a £35million bid to tempt Crystal Palace into selling Wilfred Zaha, according to a report.

The Sun reports that the Gunners are targeting the Crystal Palace star as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who is yet to sign a new deal.

Zaha has been important to Crystal Palace’s fight against relegation this season, as his goals are the only ones that have led to points on the board.

The Ivory Coast international was the player who scored the winner in the shock victory against Chelsea and he was the star who got the equaliser against West Ham to earn his side a point.

With only four points acquired from 11 games, Zaha’s team are rooted bottom of the Premier League , six points from safety.

The 25-year-old signed a fresh contract earlier this year to commit his future to Crystal Palace until June 2022.

Football Insider Verdict

Crystal Palace would be desperate to not let their main star go, but a £35million bid could be enough to tempt them, especially if Roy Hodgson cannot save them from relegation. Replacing Sanchez will be a difficult task as he is a world class talent, and Zaha has not proven himself to be on the same level as of yet. While Zaha has impressed this season with his ability to recover quickly and aid Crystal Palace despite a knee injury disrupting his season, Arsenal can surely attract better players. The Gunners would be better suited to signing someone who has consistently delivered at the highest level, rather than Zaha who flopped when he moved to a higher profile club.
