European giants target Aston Villa defender in January deal - report

By Amir Mir

Aston Villa defender Aly Cissokho is attracting interest from European giants Olympiacos, according to a report.

The Sun claim the 29-year-old is a January target for the Greek side who are plotting a move for the out-of-favour left-back.

Cissokho has not featured for the senior side since Villa’s 2-1 win at Reading in October where he gave away a penalty for the second consecutive game.

Instead, Cissokho’s French counterpart Jordan Amavi has been played in that position where he has impressed over the last few months.

It is said manager Steve Bruce is planning a clear-out of the squad that he inherited from his predecessor Roberto Di Matteo.

Cissokho joined Villa from Valencia in 2014 under then manager Paul Lambert as he went on to play 58 games in all competitions for the Midlands club.

His contract at the Championship side runs until 2018 as he has featured on 12 occasions for the club during this campaign.

Football Insider verdict:

To state in simple words, Steve Bruce must sell Aly Cissokho. The left-back has been a walking disaster since he joined the club and has been one of many disastrous signings by former manager Paul Lambert. At this moment in time, Villa have the young and exciting Jordan Amavi playing at full-back, therefore, Cissokho is not needed as he will not help the club in their push for promotion this season. Regardless of how he is sold, Cissokho must leave the club so it can open up the opportunity for someone else to be put on the wage bill.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club have made a move for this £13 million Premier League midfielder.
