Celtic’s new signing and last-gasp transfer of the January transfer window, Jack Hendry, is set to make his European debut against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League when the sides meet in just over a week’s time, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun has said that due to the number of injuries incurred by Brendan Rodgers’ defence, the Bhoys manager will have no other option than to select the former Dark Blues defender for the arrival of the Russian side to Parkhead.
Hendry only made his debut for the Hoops on Saturday in the team’s shock 1-0 defeat away at Kilmarnock.
It was a bad day all round as Celtic suffered a number injuries to their centre-back partnership.
Kristoffer Ajer picked up an ankle problem which doesn’t rule him out of the tie completely but makes him a doubt, while Dedryck Boyata has a groin strain.
With Mikael Lustig sidelined and Marvin Compper cup-tied and unable to feature in the match, it means that the 22-year-old January signing looks to be the only option in the centre of defence.
The Hoops have a fifth-round tie to play in the Scottish Cup against Partick Thistle on Saturday as Celtic go for success on a number of fronts and will hope to put the weekend’s defeat at Rugby Park to one side before the European clash against Roberto Mancini’s side.
