Report details Klopp will asses Liverpool trio in pre-season, states at least one will leave
By Derek Smithson
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to assess trio Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo in pre-season before deciding their futures, according to a report.
The Echo claim that the Reds youngsters will be hoping to impress in pre-season training and games, which is set to start early in July at Melwood.
The report details that it’s likely at least one of them will be loaned out next season, while there is a possibility that all three could spend time away from Anfield gaining first-team experience.
All three of the players are specialist wingers and are fighting for a spot in a very competitive squad.
Klopp already has senior options such as Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and new £34million arrival Mohamed Salah to pick from in the wide areas.
Kent has enjoyed loan spells at Coventry and Barnsley in the past two years, spending the whole of the last season with the latter in the Championship.
The 20-year-old usually operates on the left flank and was an ever-present in the Barnsley team last year, scoring three goals and supplying three assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Wilson is a 20-year-old right winger that captained Liverpool’s Under-23s side last season.
He was handed his senior debut by Klopp during the last campaign during an FA Cup match against Plymouth and is being tipped to become a future first teamer.
Ojo has made 13 senior appearances for Liverpool so far and has previously showed his talents during loans with Wigan and Wolves.
However, the 20-year-old was restricted mainly to the youth side last season at Anfield and played just twice in cup competitions for the senior team.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool realistically only have room for one young winger in their squad and should send the two others out on loan. The Reds will have more fixtures next season due to their involvement in both European and domestic competitions, which is likely to see Klopp give youngsters a run out more often. However, the club’s emerging talent shouldn’t be satisfied with 5-10 senior games a season and will benefit much more from a loan spell where they are playing week in week out. The 20-year-olds are all on a similar path and it’s unlikely all three will end up as full senior members, but Ojo appears to be the most developed.
In other Liverpool transfer news, they have made an emphatic decision over an approach for a 23-year-old.
