Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley refused to speak to the club manager Rafa Benitez following the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, according to a report.
The Times claims that Ashley decided to leave St James’ Park whilst the Spaniard was conducting his post-match press conference after his side had suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Spurs.
The newspaper reports that both men have no been in direct contact with each other since the end of the previous campaign where Ashley reportedly informed Benitez that there were funds available to add to the squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Speaking into an interview with Sky Sports before the start of the new season, Benitez admitted that he was “not happy” with the club’s transfer policy this summer and this latest snub is likely to frustrate the Spaniard even more.
Although the Magpies have made five signings this summer, more arrivals are likely to be needed as Paul Dummett and new recruit Florian Lejeune picked up injuries on the opening day and captain Jonjo Shelvey will be suspended following his red card against Spurs.
The Tyneside club will have the chance to bounce back as they face fellow newly-promoted Premier League side Huddersfield Town this weekend.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, the club have agreed the terms of a defender transfer as their whirlwind of activity continues.
