Report: Euro giants eye key Tottenham figure to transform fortunes after major disappointment
French heavyweights Paris Saint Germain are eyeing up both Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho to replace Unai Emery, according to a report.
The Mirror claim on their website that the Premier League duo are both high on the wishlist of the European giants’ owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi after his major disappointment at the club’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League last week, and that Emery will need something special to save his job at the club.
It is said that the billionaire is willing to splash the cash to secure a top manager to transform the fortunes of the club, despite topping Ligue 1 by 12 points after failing to win just four of their games this season, two of those coming as defeats, as he believed this was the year PSG could win the Champions League.
Football Insider verdict
While PSG might be keen on seeing Pochettino return to his former club, it seems an unlikely prospect. the Argentine is loved at Spurs and he loves the club back, knowing he has the full support and backing of the board, who firmly believe he is the man to drive them to future success. While he has built up an impressive squad, he is continually looking for ways to improve, and he will not be happy until he sees the fruit of his labours in the form of some silverware. While money might be no object for the French giants, they cannot offer the same challenge that Spurs do right now, and it is that which will keep Pochettino in north London.
