By Will Butcher

Everton could be set to make a move for Sporting Lisbon star defender Ruben Semedo, according to a report.

The 22-year-old has been in supreme form for the Portuguese giants this season, making 10 appearances in all competitions at the heart of Sporting’s defence.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Semedo is a name that’s being considered by the Merseyside giants as they look to bring in a long-term replacement for ageing captain Phil Jagielka.

Interest in the Portugal Under-21 international is rife, with talkSPORT claiming that Semedo is also attracting Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli, as well as Chelsea.

Known for his pace, Semedo has impressed at the Estádio José Alvalade helping to keep four clean sheets during his 10 league and cup outings.

Sporting’s number 35 has only just broken his way into the first team with the Euro giants, after spending last season on loan with Portuguese outfit Vitoria Setubal.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is looking to revamp his defence at Goodison Park after selling John Stones to Manchester City for £50million this summer.

With doubts surrounding the future of Ramiro Funes Mori, Everton are light at centre back as veteran Jagielka remains injured. Ashley Williams is the Toffees’ other recognised centre back.

In other Everton transfer news, Koeman is also eyeing a move to sign this English youngster.
