La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruña have failed in their attempt to secure a loan move for Chelsea talisman Diego Costa this season, according to a report.

La Voz de Galicia claims that fellow league rivals Atletico Madrid are set to sign the 28-year-old this summer and they had planned to loan him to Deportivo once they had completed a deal to bring him back to the Spanish capital.

Diego Simeone’s men are currently serving a transfer ban which means that any new signings will not be able to play for the club until the new year.

The Spanish newspaper reports that both Spanish teams were studying the idea but they were unable to reach an agreement given the striker’s high wage demands which are completely unreasonable for a club like Deportivo.

Costa has failed to return back from his native Brazil and he has reportedly made himself unavailable for the Premier League champions until his immediate future is resolved.

The striker has been an instrumental figure in the Chelsea first-team since his arrival three years ago.

During his short spell at Stamford Bridge, Costa has already lifted the Premier League title on two occasions and he has also won the League Cup.

The striker’s current contract with the Blues runs out in 2019.

Football Insider verdict

With Atletico already implementing plans concerning Costa, it seems almost inevitable that he has played his final game in a Chelsea shirt. Given the fact that the champions have started the season so poorly, it is incredible to believe that the Blues have still not resolved this issue with the striker as they could really use his goals, especially with the prospect of facing Tottenham just around the corner. The relationship between the player and manager Antonio Conte appears to be damaged beyond repair but Chelsea must do everything they can to receive the right amount of money in order to offload such an important member of the team.

In other Chelsea news, the club are preparing a £120 million transfer splurge on three Premier League players.
