Tottenham will sell Vincent Janssen in the summer in order to make a move for Burnley striker Andre Gray, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that chairman Daniel Levy will fund the move for Gray by off-loading 22-year-old Janssen.
It is said Gray will make the switch from Turf Moor to White Hart Lane after he moved onto Spurs’ radar.
The 25-year-old man mountain is in his first season in the top flight ,where he has scored eight goals in 26 league games for the newly-promoted side.
By contrast, summer signing Janssen has struggled for form and consistency during his time in north London, failing to score from open play in the league.
Gray has a contract at Burnley, who he joined for £9million from Brentford, which runs until the summer of 2018 and that has reportedly made him an attractive target for Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.
It is said despite Janssen’s poor record in England’s top flight, his goalscoring feats at previous club AZ Alkmaar still suggests that there would be takers.
Holland international Janssen started Spurs’ 4-0 win over Watford on Saturday afternoon where he missed a number of guilt edge opportunities to find the back of the net.
Football Insider verdict:
Burnley striker Gray would definitely be an upgrade on Janssen and a player that is worth watching from Spurs’ perspective. The 25-year-old still has a lot to give and can play that lone role up front because of his strength and pace. Gray would not be the big-name signing for the north London outfit, however, they may not have to spend much money on him which would also help the club. Furthermore, he would add depth to the squad, something the club have lacked this season which has been apparent after the injuries to their star striker Harry Kane. Pochettino has shown with the likes of Danny Rose, Dele Alli and Kyle Walker, that he can help build up the talent of young English players and Gray could reap benefits from that.
