French outfit Saint-Etienne are interested in signing Newcastle United defender Massadio Haidara during the summer transfer window, according to a report.
Le 10 Sport claims that the Ligue 1 outfit are looking to do more business this summer and they believe that the 24-year-old full-back will be the perfect candidate to improve on their squad ahead of the new season.
The French outlet claims that Saint-Etienne are throughly tracking the Frenchman as they are huge admirers of his style of play.
The report claims that Haidara is currently available in the transfer window and although the Ligue 1 side have not yet made a concrete offer, there could be some developments in the upcoming days.
The defender moved to St James’ Park during the 2013 January transfer window but he has failed to make an impact at the Tyneside club due to a horrific knee injury he suffered near the end of his debut campaign.
The injury has meant that Haidara has only managed to feature in 11 matches in all competitions for the Magpies in the last two seasons.
The Frenchman’s current contract at St James’ Park runs out at the end of next season.
Football Insider verdict
Haidara has been one of the unluckiest players in the past couple of seasons as he has been robbed of the opportunity to prove his ability for Newcastle. A potential transfer back to his native country is most likely going to depend on whether he personally feels that he needs a change or whether he wants to stay at the club and return to full fitness as quickly as possible to help them maintain Premier League status next season. Newcastle might be tempted to let the defender leave should they receive a significant offer but the full-back is a player with 37 matches under his belt in the top flight of English football so he could still provide essential experience in the dressing room next season.
