Liverpool are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen youngster Julian Brandt, according to a report.
The Echo claim that the Merseyside club are eyeing a summer move for the 20-year-old as a deal in January won’t be possible for the £20million-rated attacker.
The report details that manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the Germany international and scouts have watched him regularly this season.
It is understood that Liverpool will attempt a summer move for Brandt and will face tough competition for his signature, with Bayern Munich among those interested in him.
Brandt is a regular in Leverkusen’s first-team and has made 16 appearances this season.
The left winger has a decent record in front of goal, scoring three goals and supplying six assists in that time.
The youngster has already racked up 115 appearances for Leverkusen and also had four international senior caps for Germany.
Brandt is tipped to be a future star for the national team and already has a big wealth of experience for a 20-year-old.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool are blessed with phenomenal attacking qualities, but one area they are short of is natural wingers. The Reds do have Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane operating in their wide areas, but don’t have many alternative options in their squad. Mane gives Liverpool great width on the right hand side and Coutinho prefers to cut inside to impact the game. Brandt would certainly give add an extra dimension to Liverpool’s style and is highly rated by Klopp. The youngster already has a wealth of experience in the Bundesliga and Champions League, but is yet to try the Premier League. He could turn out to be a smart piece of business if Liverpool pursue him in the summer.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club have made a decision on an attacker with a £20million release clause.
