Liverpool eye PL international to solve problem area, player keen on Anfield switch – reports
Jurgen Klopp has earmarked Stoke City goal-keeper Jack Butland as his first signing with the Coutinho pay cheque, according to a report.
The Daily Star report that Liverpool could move to sign the England international in the summer, allowing the underwhelming duo Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius to battle it out for the number one spot this season.
Butland is regarded as a huge upgrade between the sticks for the Reds, and Football.London state that Liverpool is the 24-year-old’s preferred destination.
Butland is just one of a number of goal-keepers who have been linked with Jurgen Klopp’s team, as the Reds look to sure up the incosistency of their shot-stoppers.
Football Insider verdict:
Jack Butland is in contention to start for England at this year’s World Cup, should he stay fit. Joe Hart has not been finding regular football for West Ham on his return to England, and he is arguably Butland’s biggest competition. Coming back from a season ending ankle injury, that also cost Butland his European Championships, the 24-year-old has looked consistent for Stoke City. It is unlikely that the Potters are going to be able to hold onto the keeper, as his stock continues to rise. A summer deal is more likely as Stoke will not want to lose their star goalie in a relegation fight.
