Liverpool FC will move to sign £90-million rated Thomas Lemar, as the departure of superstar Philippe Coutinho seems more likely that not, according to a report.
The Mirror states that the powers that be at Anfield have made contact with AS Monaco over a potential transfer for the young French talent, as Coutinho has his heart set on a move to Barcelona.
Liverpool will face tough competition to sign the young midfielder, as Lemar is widely regarded as one of the best attacking presences in European football.
It is reported that the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested, after the Gunners failed to sign him on deadline day in August.
However, it is claimed that Lemar would favour a move to Anfield purely to work under Jurgen Klopp, and to be a part of the young team he has built.
The report claims that there is now an expectation that Liverpool can land their man if they offer a serious fee and don’t try to either get him at a bargain price or attempt to incorporate performance related add-ons.
Football Insider verdict:
Should any deal for Coutinho go through in January, Liverpool will need an immediate replacement if they are to continue pressuring the League leaders. Lemar is an electrifying young talent with plenty of pace and creativity and has proved his quality on the highest stage in the Champions League with Monaco. However, as is the case with a lot of European players, Lemar could take time to adapt to the rough nature of the Premier League.
