Report from New Zealand: One bid rejected but Wood has two compelling reasons to quit Leeds

By Harry Sykes

Chris Wood might decide to quit Leeds United amid growing interest from Premier League clubs, according to a report.

The New Zealand Herald claim the captain of the national team could have his head turned amid reported interest from Southampton, Swansea and Stoke.

It is said that Wood, 25, could be persuaded to move clubs after Leeds narrowly failed in their promotion bid last season and then Garry Monk quit as manager.

The New Zealand Herald report that the striker has strong ambitions to play in the Premier League after having a brief taste of the top flight at former clubs West Brom and Leicester.

Big spending Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian made a bid for Wood in January but Leeds rejected it and he stayed to complete the best season of his career.

The front man topped the Championship goal charts with 27 and scored 30 times in all competitions.

Monk has subsequently been replaced as manager by Thomas Christiansen, who has spoken of his desire for Wood to continue where he left off last season and spearhead the team’s promotion challenged.

Leeds have signed attacking players Samuel Saiz, Ezgkan Alioski and Caleb Ekuban to offer more support to the Kiwi target man and it has been reported they are making progress in a sensational attempt to sign ex-Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo.

In other Leeds transfer news, a left-back has headed to Elland Road as he aims to secure a permanent transfer from top-flight club.
