Newcastle United and Everton are among a host of Premier League sides hunting the capture of Strasbourg attacker Stephane Bahoken when his contract expires this summer, according to a report.
The Express claim on their website that the two top flight sides are joined by rivals Brighton and Stoke City, as well as Championship side Aston Villa, in looking at snapping up the 25-year-old centre forward, who can also play on either flank as a winger thanks to his lightning pace.
It is said that one-cap Cameroon international Bahoken has refused a new contract at the French side and is seeking an exit as a free agent come the summer, which has piqued the interest of numerous sides, with the Magpies and the Toffees both reportedly scouting his performances.
He has scored eight goals in his 27 appearances across all competitions this season, and has previously played in Britain with a spell with Scottish side St Mirren.
Football Insider verdict
While clubs are always seeking out the best possible deal, is a move for a bang-average striker from the French top flight really going to improve either Everton or Newcastle this summer? Everton have Cenk Tosun as their number one forward and the hotly-rated Dominic Calvert-Lewin behind him, and their pretty well stocked on the wings, making it an unlikely swoop. Newcastle are also fine out wide but are in more desperate need of a centre forward than the Toffees – but Bahoken is not the answer. The Magpies have taken a risk on French strikers before and paid the price, and Emmanuel Riviere’s record across the channel was better. A miss for both sides.
In other Newcastle United transfer news, one forward is valued at over seven-times his original price as he gets tempted by an exit.
