Newcastle United are on course to hand themselves a massive financial boost ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Shield Gazette claim on their website that the Magpies have already got over £100million on the way as a result of the Premier League’s numerous television deals and central payments made to top flight teams, and were they to finish in their current 10th-place position, would receive an additional payment of around £21million.
It is stated that each Premier League position is worth £1.9million as a merit payment, meaning that the club’s final five games of the season could have a big impact on just how much of a boost the club are handed heading into the summer transfer window.
The funds will be a big jump up from the reported £47million received for winning the Championship as well as the parachute payments from being relegated two years ago.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle’s bank balance is in for a mighty boost indeed, and fans will be hoping that the incoming funds will translate into heightened investment into the senior side come the summer transfer market. However, with Mike Ashley in charge, nothing is certain, and if he is still keen on securing a takeover, then this revelation will only ramp up his valuation of the club for prospective buyers. It just goes to show how impressive Newastle’s performances have been this season, with all but three of this season’s clubs having been handed big-money payments last year, yet the Magpies sit in 10th following limited spending.
In other Newcastle United news, a five word statement from Rafael Benitez has made it clear what the club need to do next.
