Report: Premier League side in pole to sign goal machine, West Ham are keen
By Harvey Byrne
Premier League side Bournemouth are in pole position to land goal machine Jermain Defoe, who is also interesting West Ham, according to a report.
Former senior Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey has wrote for the Gambling Times that the Cherries are currently leading the race for the 34-year-old Sunderland forward.
The report details that the Black Cats have “all but accepted” that Defoe will be leaving the north east side in the summer with a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for nothing.
This has led to a number of top-flight clubs chasing his signature and it is stated that while Bournemouth are in pole, London duo West Ham and Crystal Palace “have shown a keen interest.”
Now, Defoe has previously played for both West Ham and Bournemouth at the beginning of his career and it is stated that he is in favour of a return south.

The 56-time capped England international has been in fine form for David Moyes’ struggling side this season and has proven that he still has an eye for goal at this late stage of his career with 14 goals from 32 appearances this season.
Football Insider verdict:
Goals in football are priceless and they are one thing that Defoe guarantees, meaning he should be a must buy for a lot of Premier League side’s despite him nearing the latter stages of his career. Now, West Ham in particular have struggled upfront this season and former man Defoe could be the perfect answer for the east London club. It is understood that Defoe is not held in the best light among the Hammers fan base, but if he is the difference between a top and bottom half finish for the club then as usual supporters will soon forget about their previous feelings.
In other West Ham transfer news, Slaven Bilic has responded when asked if the club could sign John Terry.
