Report: Spanish attacker on West Ham radar on verge of deadline day switch
By Danny Wright
Brentford attacker and West Ham target Jota is on the verge of signing for Championship side Birmingham, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [06:56am] that Jota, 26, is poised to join Birmingham on deadline day in a deal worth £6million plus add-ons, bringing to an end a summer full of speculation about his career.
The Brentford forward is understood to have been on the radar of West Ham, as well as second-tier sides Hull, Fulham and Middlesbrough.
Despite Brentford’s poor start to the new campaign, Jota has continued to show the great form he found himself last term by supplying three assists in four appearances.
After returning to west London last January after his loan spell at Eibar came to and end, the Spanish attacker turned into somewhat of a Championship goal machine as he found the net 12 times in 21 appearances, helping Brentford stay clear of a relegation battle.

Football Insider Verdict
This isn’t a big blow for West Ham. They already have a decent attack force and Slaven Bilic’s headache at the moment is definitely his midfield and defence. There have been no reports of any approach from the Hammers to sign Jota and it seems that with a move to Birmingham, he isn’t really cut out for Premier League football at this stage. He is a massive signing for Harry Redknapp though. Jota’s goals last season helped Brentford achieve a respectable finish in the Championship. Without him, they could go down this season while Birmingham could find themselves nearing a play-off spot.
